Language is a tool. We learn it most effectively when we are using it in an authentic situation. The best way is, of course, to stay in that country for a couple of months. You can learn Italian
in Rome, for example, providing you can find an Italian among all the tourists! Obviously hopping off to some foreign country is quite unrealistic for most of us. Therefore we try our best to
create authentic situations at home.
